Improving an SS build?
I just started playing recently for the very first time in about 6 months and I need some help. If anyone could critique this build that would be great!
Skills:
-Reckless Haste
-Arcane Echo
-Spiteful Spirit
-Sympathetic Visage
-Ancestral Visage
-Desecrate Enchantment
-Defile Enchantment
Stats:
Illusion - 9
Soul Reaping - 8
Curses - 16
Weapon:
Stonereaper - http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Stonereaper
Runes:
Major Vigor
Superior Curses
Any help for a newly returned player?

In general you shouldn't run an all damage build as a caster. Enfeebling Blood (Prophecies) will be great support for your party, and your build looks like it will suffer from energy shortage, Signet of Lost Souls (Nightfall) might help.

Drop Arcane Echo, Sympathetic Visage, Ancestor's Visage, Desecrate Enchantments and Defile Enchantments.
Take Barbs, Mark of Pain and Enfeebling Blood.
If you have Nightfall, take Necrosis and Signet of Lost Souls. If you don't, then try Glyph of Lesser Energy and take back Desecrate Enchantments.
Do the second attribute point quest for 15 more attribute points.

Here is my current SS build, and works wonders for any situation:
Curses 12+1+1
Soul Reaping 12+1
Arcane Echo
Spiteful Spirit
Reckless Haste
Suffering
Weaken Armor
Enfeebling Blood
Signet of Lost Souls
Sunspear Rebirth Sig/Res Signet
Every skill is AOE, and every skill causes a Hex or Condition. This build does several different things. First, it provides a huge amount of damage from SS spam and Reckless Haste. Second, it provides the spreading of two GREAT conditions in PvE. First is cracked armor, which makes your foes take a good bit more damage from your other attacks. Second is Weakness, which greatly reduces the damage some foes dish out. Finally, you have Suffering which spreads around a small degen, as well as a cover hex(hex removal usually is never an issue in PvE, but regardless, this covers it). Finally, you have Signet of Lost Souls which helps keep the energy pool up before Soul Reaping kicks in, and a little less pressure on the monks.

I confirm that this build is very good taking into consideration the following 2 comments:
a) reckless haste: if you play Hard Mode then monsters speed is already increased 33-50% compared to normal mode, so not really needed especially @ 15e nrg cost. I prefer Pain Inverter, to take out enemy bosses/ele nukers/aoe dmg dealers in general with the first spell they cast
b) suffering:use mark of pain instead - especially if you have melee / mm in your party - the screen will be full of yellow numbers if u cast and call targets correctly
my 2cents

Since SS is my usual bar, I thought I'd throw in my build in hope that it helps. :}
Curses 12+3
Soul Reaping 12
I really never have any issues with energy management, so I don't bother with throwing on extra Soul Reaping runes.
1.Spiteful Spirit
2.Suffering
3.Necrosis
4.Barbs
5.Signet of Lost Souls
6.Pain Inverter
7.Rez
8.Free slot that is filled depending on the situation. (Usually it's Enfeebling Blood, "By Ural's Hammer!", Arcane Echo, or Ebon Vanguard Sniper Support)
Weapon Adept Tormented Staff of Curses with a "Seize the Day!" inscription. This totals up to +30 health and +25 energy, although I sacrifice 1 energy pip (which isn't that big of a deal as a Necromancer). Of course it also has a HSR and HCT(Curses) 20%.
Mainly what I do is spread conditions and hexes as often as I can and spam Necrosis. With max Sunspear rank, Necrosis can be really wicked and fun to run around with. Pain Inverter is a *must have*, imo. Even if your Asura rank is pathetically low, you can still melt boss'/high damage output foes' faces.

Drop the Visages and Defile/Desicrate. Arcane Echo isn't that much use either.
You'll need Signet of Lost Souls. Try N/E with Glyph of Swiftness if the recharge on SS bothers you that much.
Mark of Pain/Barbs are a handy combo; the damage done from MoP can actually outscale SS if you're running with 2 or 3 Physicals.

I would suggest dropping superior curses. It really doesn't kill anything faster then 14 Curses does. The 75 extra HP will save you more often.

Superior on a caster is fine and you'll do more damage.

Not enough damage to justify -75hp.

Whether it justifies it or not is relative. If you never drop below 75 health then you might as well be using a Superior because the extra health isn't doing anything for you. Also, depending on what exactly you're running, it can result in a lot of damage. Mark of Pain with physicals who know what they're doing makes 4 extra points of damage fairly significant.

They need to buff SS. Maybe make it like SV, where it lasts 14 seconds and costs 10e, and has a 1s cast time. If the Live Team made: Spiteful Spirit - 10e | 1s cast time | 10 second recharge, it'd become viable for PvP and would see more use.

You will get spiked every so often. Five more damage isn't really that much of a difference for SS.
I suppose if you're hanging back in a fight in normal mode there's no need for caution though.

I don't think spikes are that much of a big deal. Micro Prot Spirit on yourself if you're really concerned.
Also, the benefit isn't 5 more damage. It's 5 AoE damage per trigger. Let's say there are 3 melees in AoE range of SS and the target is attacking with fast attack weapon and IAS (like it is in HM). In 10 seconds, SS will be triggered 11 times (assuming constant swinging). That means an extra 11*5*3 (165) damage. If you are able to ball the foes to a larger size ball (or even if it just happens), the damage could potentially be much more than that.
EDIT: Not to mention that Sup Curses will affect all the other Curse skills on your bar as well, like MoP, so you're getting more than the bonus damage from SS.

If he followed the suggestions made in this thread, it's justified.
In fact, it's pretty much justified already.
If you regularly drop down to less than 75 health already, you're doing something seriously wrong. In HM if you fall under attack and don't get any protection, you're going to die no matter what you're wearing or holding.
All health does is increase the margin for error a little bit, but it's much less important once you get over 500 (going much above that also starts to weaken Protective Spirit).

This is a PvE discussion and there are reasons why they should not do this.

honestly I always run something like this
1. SS
2.Mark o Pain
3. Barbs
4. Assassin Support
5. Necrosis <----one of the best dmg spells in the gamef for necro. 90 dmg/5energy
6. Enfeebling Blood
7. Free Slot (usualy Pain inerter or Rip/Rend Enchant
8.Free Slot (usually Rip/Rend enchant or secondary Rt Splinter Weapon or Flesh)
That build is generally good inall dungeons with some minor tweeks.
and before I get called a nub for not having arcane echo. I use a 40/40 set or 4020 +30 staff f quick recharges although most groups I run into are dead before a second SS is needed because MoP should be a priority lay down. And remember put barbs onhealers or other hard-to-kill targets when you have decent physicals n your group.

Do you have any idea how much better your build would be if you took Assassin's Promise over Spiteful Spirit? Of course it's no longer an SS build then, but never mind. After that, Finish Him becomes superior to Necrosis.
Also, feel free to laugh at anyone who criticises you for not bringing Arcane Echo.
